Second Entry                                                                     January 30. 2012

Unspoken Fear by Hunter Morgan

Part 1
Question
The novel is a romantic suspense story. It is like a question between what God really wants us to do and what man THINKS God wants us to do. The novel made me rose questions that really set my mood for curiosity.
The “voice of God” that Alice is hearing over again, could it possibly be not God’s voice but of Satan telling her to kill the sinners? Also, I really don’t get the reason on why Noah would have his blackouts every time Alice (Azrael, The Angel of Death), would kill a sinner? Do his blackouts have something to do with Alice’s crimes? Lastly, who killed Alice? If she really is blessed by God to be Azrael, why did she experience such a gruesome death? It has been stated that another angel killed her but who sent that so- called “angel”, God or Satan?

Prediction
I guess the Gibson’s with Mattie and Chester will again make a happy family. Rachel and Noah will get married again (though they never really got divorced), go to a honeymoon, maybe sold their property in Stephen Kill and move to another place to start a new life. They can still have another child to be Mallory and Mattie’s’ playmate. Then they’ll be complete and satisfied.
Another prediction is with Snowden and Delilah. They don’t have to keep their affections to each other. Delilah’s siblings would take Snowden as a new brother in the family. On the other hand, Tillie, Snowden’s mom would really love Delilah to be her daughter- in- law. The Calloways and the Swifts will be a very happy and riot- like family. They are the perfect match.

Connection

The characters’ nightmare experiences are like my own experiences when I have them. Mostly the nightmares are simply nightmares but, there are those which were signs that bad things will happen. It’s a really scary experience so I could really connect.
Another connection I had is that when I was a kid. Probably four or five years old, I’m telling things which the older ones don’t believe and they think I am just imagining. They would tell me to grow up and stop being childish. It’s like what Mallory is in this story.

Reflection

The innocence of a child, portrayed by Mallory, made me realize that such innocence could really turn bad things around. The rude treatment of Rachel towards Noah changed because of Mallory’s innocent and kind- hearted nature. It made me imagined me with the same kind of innocence as Mallory have, and I smiled. However, that can never be possible. Time will always come that a child’s innocence is stripped off by experiences. Also, a broken family can also be fixed by a child’s presence. In this story, one of the reasons why Rachel hated Noah was because of the fact that he got imprisoned during the time she got pregnant. However, when Noah was released, the presence of Mallory slowly brought back the love between the two.
In this story, I also pondered that Alice’s action of crucifying Judge Ellen Hearn was not right because God had not planned it. I guess she let her feeling of being powerful get into her head that’s why she thought of doing whatever she wants when she wants it. I think she was killed by what she named “an angel”, because she, also, must pay for the sins she committed and that is, doing what God has NOT commanded her to do. All of us will have to pay for our sins but no one has the right to kill someone just because she is a lesbian and just because someone thinks God will be pleased of him doing that. In this story, though a person was blessed by God as someone powerful (like in the story), at the end of every day, God still, has the final judgment.

 Part 2

Part 2 : Pretend this book will be made into a movie. Make a movie poster on large paper and put the stars who will play the main characters on it. Must be colorful, and follow other advertisements for movies. (Have a HOOK- to draw people to the movie)

A proposal to invent an internal combustion engine to improve the transportation of the land.

Sparks Fly

The need to improve the mode of transportation (horses), is a problem that’s been under the hat for centuries. Not that these horses obliged the people to home and feed them, but also, they need cleaning everyday and that, makes them inadequate for their  function.
I propose to invent this engine that will address the current problem. I’m sure that with this invention, the transportation will improve and it will mean productive industry.

This internal combustion engine is a potential solution and repalcement for the horses. The engine will be put in a cart specialized for an engine. This engine, aside form it will result faster transportation, it will also address several concerns that include the following.

1.    The engine means improved transportation which will mean greater exportation income.
With the exportation demands, which requires faster speeds, an engine- powered carriage would result to a more productive industry of the land. The carriage’s top of the line design would mean more income for the land but less stress for the people.

2.    The engine carriage will require less space and less expenses.
This engine carriage can be placed in a small room without the need of extra space for food. Consequently, this carriage doesn’t need food and habitual cleaning. All it needs is the gasoline or diesel to make it work and cleaning it will be easy as washing ones feet.

3.    The engine will last for years without having thy heart to pour out if it finally deteriorates and the engine will also improve as time passess.
The engine will be used for many years so no regrets about the money used to buy this type of carriage.  Also, when this carriage finally meet its destroyer, it will be easier for a person to let go of that carriage and buy a new one.
Also, an engine like this has rooms for improvement, which means as generations continue to use this, its functions will improve. Unlike for horses, time may change but a horse is still and will always be a horse with the same function.

This engine is a latent that surpasses other transporters. The ICE design as a innovation in the transportation field is expected to be the start- up to a more efficient industry. This ICE carriage will be the vehicle to develop gainful transportation experience. The ICE carriages will take the race farther and the land will dominate in the history of innovative aspects.

A proposal to invent a ballpoint pen to serve as the innovation of the quill pen.

Rolling in the Seep

The improvement needed for the quill is a mess that’s been marking our head for a long time. The quill not only causes unnecessary marks but it also make the people spend a lot of effort. In this reason, a new writing instrument must be developed.
I have this invention that surely will start the change in our writing experience.

The ballpoint pen is a simple writing machine whose writing point is a small rotating ball that inks itself from an inner container. This ballpoint pen is the exact machine to address this problem. Aside from writing neatly is never a worry, with this pen, the land will be able to endeavor more benefits, both personal and industrial. The benefits are here as follows:

1.    Time Management- compared to a quill pen, the making of the ballpoint pen requires less time. In a quill pen, one may have to catch a goose and search for a tree sap appropriate to be the ink. But with the construction of the ballpoint pen, less time will be consumed for it is made out of materials easily located in the household.
It must also be noted that once this ballpoint pen is made, more paperworks will be made in a shorter period of time compared if we use the quill. With this pen, writing will be no sweat and time will be spent wisely.

2.    Income Generating Machine- the ballpoint pen can be the primary product for export. When other nation knew about the existence of this pen in our very land, they will want it for themselves. Obviously, our land will be the primary source of this product. As the genuine producer of this ballpoint pen, our land will dominate not just in literature but more in industry.

This invention is a simple one but it is of great value to us. From a primitive way of the quill to a state of the art ballpoint pen, our writing experience will surely be the hook for a larger catch of innovation. Once this ballpoint pen is at hand, our land will roll to success and this invention will be known in all generations. The ballpoint pen will be our key to domination and recognition.

To Swim Across the World
by Frances Park and Ginger Park

Part 1
1. Reflection
The two main characters, Sei- Young and Heisook were both introduced with different circumstances but with a single purpose of their interaction to each other. Heisook was an innocent and feeble girl but as the events took effect in her life, my perception of her changed. Her escape from North to South Korea brought her to the realization that life is not just a bed of roses; life is also a field full of confusion, fear and danger. That truth transformed her into a brave woman fit to be the wife of an equally brave man, Sei-Young.
As to Sei- Young, the impoverished and diligent boy from the South proved to me that the best things come for those who persevere. His struggles and family inspired him to really work and study at his best for him to do what he is meant to do-- to swim across the world. From being a poor boy from a poor family into being a diplomat of The Republic of Korea until he, with Heisook, migrated to America-- Sei- Young means "to swim across the world" and he really did it.
The characters lives were at the opposite sides of the line but as the story draws to its end, they met halfway through. I guess with some experiences they had, they were able to relate to each other and made the relationship worked for the best.
2. Connection
This story is like the Korean counterpart of my parents' real- life story, two Filipinos living their lives at the opposite side of a foreign country. They met through a letter that my mother sent to his brother- in- law who happens to be my father's friend. My father was the one to receive and reply to the letter until one day, they came home in the Philippines, met each other personally and got married. Just like in the story, my parents are from different places, backgrounds and beliefs but because of common and unusual circumstances, their destinies interlocked and I became their first born child. I am proud to be the result of such kind of story.
3. Question
In the novel, there are things I wonder about like, if Sei- Young’s grandfather never told him about the meaning of his name (Sei- Young—to swim across the world), would he still be able to do what he did in the novel? I also don’t know the very reason why Heisook’s mother never told them about their dead brother and Heisook has to find it out through a diary but still, the secret was never revealed out in the open. Also, I know Mr. Suka was forced to return to Japan but if he married Aunt Sunja, that will never be the case. Now, why did Mr. Suka did not ask Aunt Sunja to marry him? Did Kwan- Young’s death brought difference to Sei- Young or it was just to add drama to the latter’s life?
4. Predict
I’m thinking that Sei- Young would not be an immediate diplomat- to- be in college if he never met Eun Ju. He would always set the fire in Sei- Young before his speeches. I guess he will not be a diplomat without Eun Ju’s influence. Another prediction, if Mr. Suka married Aunt Sunja, they will have a bigger family. Then Aunt Sunja’s loneliness and perception of the Japanese would be totally gone. Lastly, Heisook’s mother will be in safer hands if she went to the South with her daughter. I think she will be a good friend to Sei- Young’s mother and aunt.

Part 2

Option #18: Poem about an idea or a character in the novel. Three to four stanzas.

 The Freedom Trip

In the crowd of screaming pain,
Being alive is living in vain.
Our lips closed but the eyes could see,
What must be done to make the devil flee.

As lives of my people go to waste,
The fear in me starts to evaporate,
Leaving only my calm courage,
I want to see the fall of them, savage.

I was once a talker in silence,
A mindless thinker, prisoner of the darkness,
Now I must stand and take the steps,
Say the words and lead the nation to success.

I’ve done my part, the speeches were said.
I see my efforts and this where it led.
A road to blissful days with the motherland,
Oppression is over, freedom is at hand.

From Jaime Licauco: My New Hero

What the end of the earth in 2012 means

ARMAGEDDON! Apocalypse! End times!

These terms conjure visions of calamities, cataclysms and upheavals. They induce fear and anxiety because they are believed to be the end of the world.

The great Mayan Calendar, which predicts the end of the present cycle to occur precisely at midnight of Dec. 21, 2012, suggests not the end of the world, but merely the end of a 26,000-year earth cycle, divided into five sub-cycles of about 5,200 years.

According to the Mayan Calendar we are on the last fifth earth cycle where a new beginning looms.

According to Mayan prophecies, “All moons, all years, all days, all winds, reach their completion.

Measured is the time in which we can know the benevolence of the sun. Measured is the time in which the stars look down on us.”

On Dec. 21, 2012, several heavenly planets will be in complete alignment with the earth and solar system, an event which takes place only once in about 26,000 years. And such an alignment will exert a great magnetic pull that will affect all life on earth. Great changes will take place. There will be a breaking down of the old order of things to give way to the new.

In the words of Dr. James J. Hurtak, president of the Academy for Future Science and author of the prophetic book “Secret Knowledge: The Keys of Enoch”—“Humanity must begin to understand that in a new era of true enlightenment, the exclusive material mind-set will have to pass away in order for human nature to implement new tools at quantum change.”

To help with this formidable information dissemination task, I wanted to consult Gabbey, an angelic entity that communicates with Dr. Jun Aquiatan of Pangasinan, who teaches management. But before I could, Jun texted to say he had received a message about the Mayan

Prophecy from Gabbey.
According to the entity Gabbey, “The Mayan people had some contact with other beings in the universe who gave them knowledge about the heavenly bodies.”
This explains how the Mayans were able to foretell accurately the movements of planets without the use of modern instruments. They were taught by beings who came from outer space.

End of an era
The end of the present Earth cycle on Dec. 21, 2012 mentioned in the Mayan Calendar “does not mean the end of the world but the end of a cycle or an era. This means that a new kind of consciousness in the world will begin to take shape which will also affect the way of life on earth.”

Gabbey said that everything in the universe is interconnected. “The phenomenon that will happen on Earth has a parallel event in another place in the universe. The change in your earth’s consciousness will have an effect in the consciousness of other beings in other planets.”
Gabbey continued to explain that the new consciousness means “a better understanding of the meaning of life. Cultures on earth will gradually change based on a new understanding of life.

New philosophies will emerge, religious beliefs will gradually shift and scientific inventions will proliferate, but this time, it would not be geared towards destruction but to improve human life.” He also said, “organizations, including religious organizations, will be shaken.”

Gabbey predicted calamities to come, a prediction that echoes what is in the Mayan Calendar. But Gabbey added that these calamities would be brought about not only by the alignment of different planets but by other phenomena.

“Another far planet which has no name yet because it has not been detected yet by your scientists will have a great effect on your sun, and this will trigger tremendous sun flares that will affect not only the earth but also the other planets in your solar system. This will cause diseases and other global calamities.”

When asked what we can do about these coming changes and calamities, Gabbey replied, “Pray that you survive these calamities. Remember that this phenomenon is a natural occurrence in the higher order of things and, therefore, they will come. This is a part of the grand evolutionary scheme under the universal set-up by God. I will tell you later what is in store for the world once the new era sets in.”

Then Gabbey abruptly ended the message by saying, “We are through.”

JUST SO YOU KNOW...

My name is Sarah F. Ubpon. I am an AB English student of Mindanao State University General Santos City Campus. I am eighteen years old with long black hair and a pair of eyeglasses.
Most people would call me "a nerd", "a smart kid", etc.
Yes. I love books and laboratory equipments (though I don't know how to use some of them). I love searching the internet for new learning and talking about supernatural phenomena with friends.
However, being all of those is not being "Little Miss Perfect". I am just one of you.

Let's know why it is, blow- by- blow...

1. I am a girl and I have my mood swings.

--Oh come on! Who in this world doesn't know I am moody????????
(I know one but I'm not gonna name names)
When I enter a room, I'm in a joyful mood but in a minute or two, beware, i might change myself in an angry mood. All of us have this and this cannot be change or removed from our system. I just want people to know that I am not at all good in playing with my own boo- boos.

2. I am also a dumb student and I cheat.

--Wooh! I am so glad I said that.
Children, I'm not as intelligent as what you think I am. There are also things I don't know and that I can't understand. In that case, I need to turn my head left to right, front and back, up and down just for me to get some answers.
Oh, and I'm really pissed off with students who cover their papers when I'm just asking for the date but when they are the one to ask for my answer, they never mind my paper being crumpled. THAT SUCKS!!!
But anyway, now you know that I am not the lady version of Albert Einstein in the 21st century
I also cheat.

3. I am a crazy teenager with crazy set of friends.

Lunch in a table...
Eating with one spoon and plate...
Throwing garbages in each others faces...
Teasing each other with cruel names...
Walking in other colleges building to bond...
...that's what we do when we meet.

Some people think I am not fun to be with but it is alright. All I know is that, with my true friends, I can be as crazy and foolish as I am. That's what makes my life exciting and fun.

I just shared a few thing about me. haha.
Just want to remind everyone that I AM JUST ONE OF YOU.

I love you Earthlings...

just read...

Love Means... (a girl and guy were speeding over 100 mph on a motorcycle)
Girl: Slow down. I'm scared.
Guy: No this is fun.
Girl: No its not. Please, it's too scary!
Guy: Then tell me you love me.
Girl: Fine, I love you. Slow down! Guy: Now give me a big hug. (Girl hugs him)
Guy: Can you take my helmet off and put it on? It's bugging me.
In the paper the next day: A motorcycle had crashed into a building because of break failure. Two people were on the motorcycle, but only one survived. The truth was that halfway down the road, the guy realized that his breaks broke, but he didn't want to let the girl know. Instead, he had her say she loved him, felt her hug one last time, then had her wear his helmet so she would live even though it meant he would die
